Your first appointment

Regardless of your reason for coming to therapy, you may be wondering what to expect from your first therapy session. Our hope is this page will give you some good information to help you feel prepared.

In Person Sessions

In-Person Sessions:

We have two separate locations (three separate buildings), so be sure to confirm with your therapist the location of where you will meet them:

  1. 950 or 948 North Logan Street

  2. 1839 N. York St. Suite #1

Both of these locations typically have street parking in the neighborhood nearby. At our Logan St. offices, you can usually find parking on 9th, 10th, or Pennsylvania Ave. At our York St. location, there is typically parking on 18th, 20th or Gaylord. Give yourself a little time to find parking before your session.

Teletherapy Sessions

You will be emailed a link to your teletherapy session. This will be a video and audio session. When it is time for your session, click the link and follow any instructions. If you have any issues logging on, please contact your therapist immediately. They should contact you via phone if you do not arrive within the first few minutes.

What to Expect in Your First Session

Your first therapy session will feel a lot like anytime you meet a new person, there will be lots of questions asked to get to know you and you are welcome to ask our therapists any questions about how they do therapy or what their training is.

The goal of a first session is to get to know you, your needs, and how they may be able to help. It may feel a bit uncomfortable answering questions to a stranger, but they will hopefully help you to feel comfortable along the way. They will likely gather a lot of background information and ask you why you are coming to therapy and what you hope to gain from being in therapy.
